Porcelain brush pot, cylindrical, painted in underglaze blue with scenes representing the elegant accomplishments of the Chinese scholar. One group watches an artist painting, while a visitor arrives accompanied by a boy bearing a bundle of scrolls; a second party watches a game of chess; a third is listening to a performance on the lute, while a visitor arrives with an attendant carrying his lute.
