This statuette is probably made in South Germany, about 1370-1400, and would have occupied the centre of a tabernacle or small altarpiece. This was originally depicting the Virgin and Child, but the Child is now missing. The Child's feet can be seen on the Virgin's right thigh.

The Virgin is seated on a bench wearing a veil and long flowing robes, her both arms are missing. The back of the statuette is flat, and paint is much worn away. The colouring is of more recent date and there are traces of gilding and silver paint. |
