This is a fragment of a relief in ivory stained green, depicting the head and part of the figure of the Virgin (a Virgin Hodegetria) whose right hand is extended across her breast. There are traces of a foot and the right hand of the Child with two fingers extended blessing. The statuette is Byzantine, made probably in the late 9th century. It is also said that this object came originally from Syria. It is probably part of the same Deësis triptych as the figure of Christ, A.4 -1910.
