These wax impressions are from the obverse and reverse sides of a medal awarded annually as the mining prize at the Royal College of Science. The medal shows two hammers crossed behind a cartouche with a ribbon beneath and commemorates Sir Warington Smyth 1817-1890.

Physical description

Impressions in black wax of the obverse and reverse of a medal. Obv.: SIR WARINGTON SMYTH. F. R. S. 1817-1890; profile bust to leftt. Rev.: two hammers crossed behind a cartouche, with a ribbon beneath bearing the legend GLÜCK AUF!; a laurel wreath surrounds the whole. The medal is annually awarded to the studnet of the Royal College of Science who takes the first place in the Honours Examination in Mining.
