This is the reverse of bronze medal. It shows two female figures in classical costume standing beside an oak tree, at the foot of which is a shield with the date 1872; beneath them is a sword wreathed with an oak branch, and a book inscribed with the word SCIENTIA. In the distance is a landscape with a river and factory buildings and above is the legend CONCORDIA ET LABORE. It was struck from a die and silvered. This medal is the work of Louis Oscar Roty, the leading French medallist of the late nineteenth century.
