The glassmakers from Murano, an island off Venice, were renowned for their skills and imaginative designs. This glass perfume sprinkler was partly blown in a mould to give it the appearance of a stringed instrument. The added details in blue glass provide it with bird-like features, while the long spout is shaped like a snake. The flow from the spout could be regulated by placing the thumb over the blue-rimmed hole in the side.
