Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Child's side chair, of carved and turned birchwood. The chair has a cresting rail which gently curves inward and downward, echoed by a second cylindrical horizontal rail below it, with four turned vertical spindles set between the two. The back stays are cut in one with the back legs, giving a doubly tapering effect; the front legs and front stretcher are decorated with simple turned shaping. The remaining stretchers are plain rods, one at the back and a pair at each side. The chair has a shield-shaped seat with a wooden rim wound with cane, and a canework centre worked in a linear basketweave pattern.
