Cizhou wares are stonewares made all over northern China. They were seen as 'popular ' wares, not fine enough for use at court. Although not as widely exported as other wares, they share features with contemporary Korean and Middle Eastern ceramics. Cizhou wares also appealed to Japanese taste and found favour in the West in the 20th century.

Physical description
Stoneware ewer with rounded sides set on a low spreading foot, angular shoulder rising to a narrow cylindrical neck, springing from the middle of which a high strip handle attached to the body, right opposite is a short, curved, tapering spout. Decorated with stylised flowers cut and incised through a thick white slip, under a clear glaze.
