This bronze medal depicts Cardinal Vincenzo Costaguti (1612-1660; Cardinal in the year 1643).
It was made by Alberto Hamerani (1620-1677) in Italy, and is dated 1647.

The Hamerani's were an important family of coin engravers and medallists of Bavarian origin. The medals are notable especially for their historical value documenting Rome and its monuments at that time.
Johan Andreas Hamerani (b Adensburg, c. 1600; d Livorno, 1644), also an medallist arrived in Rome in 1615. Alberto Hamerani (b Rome, 1620; d Rome, 1677), his son, worked for a short time at the mint of Massa Carrara, then, between 1657 and 1669, in Rome, as assistant first to Gaspare Morone Mola and later to Girolamo Lucenti.

on the reverse: VI: GRAVIORA.AMŒNIORIBVS.LENIRENTVR. A palace with fortifications. In the exergue, the arms of Costaguti surmounted by a cardinal's hat and the inscription IN.ANTILLITTORE.EXTRVCTA.
