Marks and inscriptions | 'G' (Painted on the front of the jug) |
Credit line | Given by Lady Charlotte Schreiber |
Object history | The initial 'G' is perhaps for John, 11th Baron Gray (1716-1782) in the Peerage of Scotland. Purchased by Lady Charlotte Schreiber from Emerson Norman, Norwich, for £10 in November 1872. Acquired as Bow porcelain. This was number 319 in the Schreiber Collection where it is described as Derby porcelain, about 1760. In 1963, the opinion of the then curator was that the jug itself had been made at Longton Hall about 1752-5 but later painted at West Pans about 1764-70 in William Littler's workshop. |
