Although this bear may have been made more as a fashion accessory than a toy, it is a very simple and eminently loveable version of this popular type of toy. This colourful bear was acquired as an example of a truly modern teddy for inclusion in the V&A Museum of Childhood's Must-have Toys exhibition. It demonstrates the enduring popularity of the teddy bear.

Physical description

Fully jointed teddy bear of pale green covered with blue line flower patterns. The pads of the feet and paws, the muzzle and the inner ears are blue. The eyes are blue with black pupils and a white gleam in each. The nose is a triangle of black stitching and the mouth is a large black stitched smile with a vertical line joining it to the nose. The main body of the bear is smooth while the blue areas are slightly ribbed. The stuffing is very soft polyester. There is a white label with black printing sewn low down on the back seam.
