Object history
Designed in early 1979, it was shown for the first time at the International Furniture Fair, Copenhagen, in May 1979. A display of Dux Möbel furniture took place in Liberty's modern furniture department in October 1979, where this chair retailed at £225. Bruno Mathsson was 72 years old in 1979 and had been designing for 50 years. He was elected an Honorable Royal Designer of Industry in 1978.
The chair came to the Furniture department's attention through an illustration in the journal 'Design'. It was exhibited, with another earlier Mathsson design, at the 'Svensk Form' exhibition at the V&A in 1980.
