This proof was for an illustration to page 11 of the Wine Society's Christmas list for 1986 (see E.697-1994). Though it was hand coloured, the outline image was printed in pale blue, a technique devised by the artist John Lawrence (born 1933) for a more successful photo-mechanical reproduction of the black areas.

Physical description
Proof for an illustration to the Christmas list for the Wine Society for page 11, featuring 'After Dinner Ports. Spirits. Liqueurs.' In yellow, blue, pink, red, green, the image depicts a circus with several performers, a unicycling clown on a tightrope, a fire-eater and his assistant, surrounded by a decorative frame which includes wine glass motifs. For the list see E.697-1994.
