John LAWRENCE (born 1933) ... Christmas card for the National Grid. 1991 Commissioned by Pentagram Colour offset lithograph after a wood engraving E.698-1994 Given by John Lawrence Photomechanical reproduction does not always do justice to wood engraving: for example blacks are not consistently dark enough and details are lost. John Lawrence has therefore devised a technique for preparing for colour reproduciton by printing the outline image in pale blue and then hand colouring the image.
