Physical description

Teapot and cover of porcelain, transfer-printed and painted with enamels over the glaze.
[Teapot] Teapot decorated in purplish-brown with a half-length bust portrait of Prussian king Frederick the Great on one side with the words 'the PRUSSIAN HERO' on the left, and the figures of Fame with two trumpets and cupid with a wreath and a lance above, and on the other side is an equestrian figure of the king riding to the left on the battlefield, with a dead soldier on the ground before him, and on the front of the body below the ribbed spout is painted a spray of flowers, and the loop handle is in the form of a branching stem from which spring two sprays of flowers and foliage applied to the body.
[Cover] Cover with printed trophies of arms, and the handle is in the form of a small stem with flowers and foliage.

Object history note

Probably made about the same time of Frederick the Great's successes in the Seven Year's War, and his convention with England in 1756 against France and her Allies.
The bust of Frederick II is copied with slight modifications from a portrait at one time in the possession of Graf von Hochberg, at Rohnstock, painted by Antoine Pesne and engraved by J.G. Wille.
