The gnome workshop is part of a set to make a festive display. The set imagines lots of gnomes in a snowy wooden cabin workshop making traditional toys for children's Christmas presents. This was designed and made by Margaret Hickson and Betty Lorrimar, members of the British Doll Artists Association. The set was given to the museum as a gift in the 1990s and has proved to be a very popular Christmas display.

Gnome workshop for Christmas display by Margaret Hickson and Betty Lorrimar, made in England in about 1995
Physical description
Model of a gnomes workshop to include several gnome figures. The set comes in three parts, the backdrop, floor and a fir tree. The set is intended to be viewed from the front and back and shows the front facade of the wooden effect cabin workshop with an opening front door and shuttered windows. the tree sits in this part of the set. The inside of the workshop is painted white and has a large number of traditional toys and dolls hanging up or placed on shelves, the the gnomes have made for Christmas presents. There is also Christmas related objects in the interior such as a picture of Father Christmas and 3 stockings stuffed with presents.
