This elegant firegrate was probably from a drawing room in a wealthy town house. It was possibly made by Carron and Company (1758-1982) which became one of the largest iron works in Europe in the 19th century.

| Physical description | Grate. Steel and cast iron..Bow front with three bars and with projecting wings, each surmounted by two urn-shaped knobs. Pierced apron with a band of wavy scrolls, above one of open fluting divided into panels by five round bosses; below is a band of guilloche. The cast iron back (a modern replacement) with a fan-light shaped cresting decorated with tracery formed of husk-ornament. |
