This medal is by the medallist Sperandino made in Italy in the late 15th century.
On the obverse it depicts the bust to the left of Guido Pepoli, wearing cap and robe.

The reverse shows two men seated playing chess: the man on the right crowned and holding sceptre; the other is holding up his left hand and pointing to the chess-board with his right hand.

The depicted subject Guido Pepoli was a Bolgnese noble (b. 1449; d. 1505).

Savelli Sperandio, a prolific medallist if inferior imitator of Pisanello, was born in Mantua but worked mainly in Ferrara. From 1478 to ca. 1490, however, he worked at Bologna.
