The Plaque depicts Silenus borne by four children to the right, and preceded by a youthful faun carrying a cornucopiae and playing pan pipes. Behind Silenus are other children one of whom carries a vase, while another sits upon the ground playing a double flute.
Silenus is described as the oldest of the Satyrs, son of Hermes or Pan and the companion and adviser of Dionysus and the one who brought up Dionysus.
Silenus was wise, but ugly and excessively fat: he had a snub-nose, thick lips and drank wine to excess.
