This medal depicts an allegorical bust of Gaul (France).
The medallist, Frederic Charles Victor de Vernon, began his studies in the die-engraving workshop of Paulin Tasset. In 1879 he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and became the pupil of the sculptor Cavelier and the medallist J.C. Chaplain. Since 1892 he exhibited every year at the Salon.

Medal depicts: Obv.: Bust to left in armour wearing a winged helmet.
Rev.: EXIIT AD.COELVM RAMIS.FELICIBVS ARBOS. An oak to which is attached a flag; behind, a trilithon and the setting sun. The medal has a ring at the top to which a link is attached.
