John O'Connor belongs to a small group of wood engravers who took up the technique after its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. He was a student of Eric Ravilious at the RCA between 1934 and 1937 and also worked for a short while for the Curwen Press.

Physical description
Wood-engraved illustration featuring a steam engine in a dimly lit platform. Nursery plants stand to the edge of the platform. The scene is lit by a wall lantern which illuinates a night sky with stars and silhouette of a townscape. A porter's luggage trolley stands on the platform.
