John O'Connor belongs to a small group of wood engravers who took up the technique after its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. He was a student of Eric Ravilious at the RCA between 1934 and 1937 and also worked for a short while for the Curwen Press.

Wood-engraved illustration featuring an interior looking out of a window towards a landscape of fields. On the window ledge is a glass and bottle of beer. A cello stands in the cornder and on the table are three wooden flutes. A hand holding a glass, a patterned border (top left) and a framed picture (right) can also be seen.
