This narrow length of linen has an embroidered Arabic inscription in blue which refers to El Mustansir, Fatimite Khalif of Egypt, who reigned between A.H. 427 and 487 (= Current Era 1036-1095). The surface of the linen is glazed, probably with a vegetable wax.

This fragment might be part of a piece acquired in 1888 (1381-1888). Both pieces have inscriptions referring to El Mustansir, Fatimite Khalif of Egypt, who reigned between AD 427 and 487 (AD 1036-1095).
Historical context
A similar example was shown at the Munich Exhibition 1910.
