Forms in Succession

Sculpture
2008 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Nagae Shigekazu (1953-) has established an important following for his remarkable ability at slip-casting ever larger and more delicate porcelain forms. He fires his thinly formed, razor-edged shapes to very high temperatures, suspending them in the middle of the kiln so that their curved forms sag and drape with an uncanny sense of movement. This is one of his most successful pieces to date (as at Oct 2008), and was made in his newly refurbished studio, which was badly damaged by fire in 2007.
