Carpet fragment of woven wool.

WARP: grey wool; Z2S; 16 threads per inch (61 per dm).

WEFT: brown wool; Z spun, unplied; 2 parallel threads per shoot and 2 shoots after each row of knots; 9 knots per inch (34 per dm).

PILE: wool; 6 colours: red, yellow, dark green, blue, brown, white; asymmetrical knot open to the right and tied around 2 threads; 72 knots per sq. inch (1037 per sq. dm).

SIDE FINISH: cut.

END FINISH: cut.

DESIGN: field: divided into identical 8 (20.5 sq. cms) squares. Each square contains a stepped diamond with a red ground on which are yellow and white floral sprigs. Upper right and lower left sides are outlined in brown, yellow and red. The other two sides are outlined in white and brown. Outside the diamond, the upper left and lower right corners have a red ground with similar floral sprigs while the other two corners in alternate squares are blue or dark green. The squares are formed by narrow, vertical bands of diagonal blocks in all the colours and by horizontal, interrupted but similar bands.
