Vase

ca. 1865-1875 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This vase was a popular type of export ware, produced in China in the second half of the 19th century, and certainly before the date of its acquisition by the museum in 1876. At that time China trade had already decreased in volume, if compared with the previous century.

The shape and decoration of this vase were inspired by ancient bronze vessels; this type often had a mark of the Chenghua emperor (1465-1487) in a brown square on the base.
