Bag face of knotted woollen pile on a woollen warp.
WARP: white wool; NB: there is a marked difference in appearance between the warp at the lower and upper edges - the lower has unravelled badly; Z2S; 17 threads per inch (66 per dm).
WEFT: brown wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 15 knots per inch (64 per dm).
PILE: wool; 6 colours: dark red, red, dark green, blue, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 128 knots per sq. inch (2112 knots per sq. dm).
SIDE FINISH: Left: 2 cords oversewn in purple wool. Right: 1 cord oversewn - incomplete.
END FINISH: Lower: missing. Upper: maximum 2.5 cm. plain weave with cream weft.
DESIGN: field: rectangle divided horizontally into two halves by narrow band. Diagonal zigzag bands in both halves slope to meet at the right-hand side. Main border: interlocking, arch-shaped motifs. Inner and outer borders: coloured blocks alternating with black and white squares.
