Bag face of knotted woollen pile on a woollen warp.
WARP: brown and cream wool, often plied together; Z2S; 12 threads per inch (45 per dm).
WEFT: brown wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 10 knots per inch (39 per dm).
PILE: wool; 6 colours: red, dark green, dark blue, brown, light brown, cream; asymmetrical knot open to the right and tied around 2 threads; 60 knots per sq. inch (878 per sq. dm).
SIDE FINISH: one cord oversewn with red wool. At one time was sewn onto its backing with brown wool.
END FINISH: Lower 5 cms. of plain weave with dark green, red and brown weft, turned under and sewn. Upper: cut; 5 cms of plain weave with brown weft. Fringe: one row of knots tied around 6 threads after pile. After every colour change at 11 cms. there is a single knot of yellow/brown twisted thread.
DESIGN: (NB: described as in use): field: red ground with two and two half bands of diamonds outlined in brown, the centre and each corner containing a small diamond. The Xs thus formed are of the same colour in diagonal bands towards top right.
Border: rectangles of cream, green or blue, each containing a red, double-hooked diamond. Upper band: red ground with yellow double-hooked motif alternating with blue and green.
