Object history | This hat is identical in construction/form to T.108E-1978. When these hats were examined by a milliner in April 2009, she concluded that they were definitely made by the same millliner, although T.108E-1978 had been attributed to Antoine of Zurich. (who designed the suit worn with the hat; this is a common cause of misattribution of accessories). The hat was made by Madame Lylett Rivière who had establishments in both Paris and New York. The hat was worn and donated by American-born Mrs Margaret Abegg who together with her husband Werner founded the Abegg-Stiftung, a leading historical textile collection near Berne in Switzerland. |
