Laura Knight made many paintings, drawings and subsequent prints of scenes showing dancers and theatrical subjects, many of them views behind the scenes. In her use of the aquatint process she was inspired and influenced by the work of Goya in this medium. This scene shows a Spanish theme performed by Diaghilev's Ballet Russes dancers. There is companion to this print showing a female dancer in Spanish dress in the collection of the British Museum.
