This is a box or a stick handle made in ca. 1700-1720 in Germany. The box is carved in ivory with a floral design, mounted in silver, and upheld in a hand. A cork infill in a hole in the bottom may replace an original stand, although this box could have also served as a stick handle. The elegant style of the piece resembles similar small miscellaneous objects carved in ivory made for German courts, such as those in Schwerin, Kassel and Dresden.
