This bronze medal, commemorating the escape of George III from an assassination attempt at the Drury Lane Theatre on 15th May 1800.
On 15th May the King, Queen and Princesses visited the Drury Lane theatre to see the performance. As the King entered his box and was bowing to the audience, a Mr James Hadfield, a discharged soldier seated in the second row from the orchestra, stood up and fired a horse pistol towards the royal box.
