WARP: cream wool; Z2S; 20 threads per inch (78 per dm). NB many new warp threads have been introduced into the lower part of the bottom band of pattern.

WEFT: green, dark blue, blue, dark pink, pink and cream wool, white (cotton); the wool is Z spun, unplied, the cotton is Z2S; 2 parallel threads per shoot; 2 shoots after every row of knots; 32 knots per inch (126 per dm counted as 63 per 5 cms).

PILE: wool; 8 colours: yellow, dark green, dark blue, dark pink, pink, dark brown, brown, cream; asymmetrical knot open to the right and tied around 2 threads; 320 knots per sq. inch (4914 per sq. dm).

SIDE FINISH: 2 cords overcast with red wool on the front and returned wefts on the back. A plait of grey and brown wool has been attached along both sides.

END FINISH: Lower (forms the top back edge of the bag): turned under and stitched into place. Upper (forms top front edge): 4 cms of plain weave in white cotton divided by 2 narrow dark pink/green bands of woollen weft, followed by bands of dark brown and dark pink wool and one of cream wool; turned and stitched in place. At the lower edge of the front is a row of multi-coloured woollen knots which form a fringe (maximum 35 cms, long). The fringe includes spaced cords of cream and brown wool.

DESIGN: the back is plain weave with cream woollen weft. The front is divided into seven bands of pile. The widest and lowest band has a cream ground with reciprocal and stylised floral sprigs in dark pink and pink, each bearing three flowers. Above this are five narrow bands: all have back-to-back cream tridents pointing towards crosses outlined in cream. The topmost band has spaced white florets outlined in dark blue with a pink centre. Stepped multi-coloured arrowheads project along the band from each flower. In between are bands of plain weve in dark pink and pink outlined in blue, with three bands of white cotton outlined in dark blue.
