Physical description
The Virgin holds the Christ Child on her left arm and the base of a lily stem and staff (hollowed out) in her right hand. The Christ Child wearing a full length tunic, holds a fruit in His left hand and reaches out across the Virgin's chest to grasp the end of her veil.

Historical context
This Virgin and Child would probably have been set within a painted and gilded wooden tabernacle, as is documented for a comparable figure, executed in Paris in 1341 for a monument in Langres Cathedral (Champagne). The head of the Christ Child appears to be a nineteenth century replacement.
