Object history
The design of the wine cooler follows, with a number of variations, the published engraving of a wine cooler designed by Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier for Louis-Henri de Bourbon, prince de Condé (1692-1740) in 1723. The original cooler does not survive, but a number of 19th century versions, inspired by the engraving, are known.
