Marks and inscriptions
Conjoined anchor and 'D' (Maker's mark painted (overglaze) in gold on underside of both pieces (the mark on the saucer, however, is in a different colour gold from the cup and is a fake))
Credit line
Transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology, Jermyn Street
Production
The cup and saucer did not originally belong to one another, and the saucer could have been made as a replacement piece. The saucer can be dated to 1778-1780/81 by the incised N mark, but the cup has a factory mark in use between 1770 and 1777. The anchor and D mark on the saucer is a fake.
