| Object history | Acquired as a bust of the poet Alexander Pope. Lady Charlotte Schreiber gave no details of where she purchased this piece in her annotated copy of the first edition of the catalogue of her collection. However, a pencil annotation by Augustus Wollaston Franks gives a reference to her Journals (vol. I, p. 45, 3 October 1869), where she records: '... we returned to Utrecht ... Went by appointment to the Jew. He had no great show of things, but we managed to buy two small Bow female figures, £2, a bust of Pope, soft paste, £1 ...' |
