Physical description

Candlestick in soft-paste porcelain painted in colours and gilded of a figure of Mars. Mars is clad in Roman armour with gilt-scaled breastplate and flowering cloak and stands beside a tree-trunk with flowers and foliage, on the summit of which, above a row of projecting leaves forming a grease-pan, is the socket for the candle. At the foot of the tree behind him are a shield and a banner. Supported on a rococo-scrolled base.
