The quilt shows French and Spanish influence. 'Persian Palm Lily'. Brought [sic] up by steam jacket from New Orleans - As Alleghany Mts. divided the W[est] from E[ast] it was easier to navigate the Mississippi than over land - meat was sent from Middle West to South and boats returned with calico, printed goods, designs, dress materials, furniture (a little), dye stuffs etc.

At the same time the Eastern seaboard was producing stuff of the style of "early Victorian". Date of quilt first quarter of 19th century.
