Object history
Acquired by Caspar Purdon Clarke on his purchasing trip to India in 1881-1882.

1883 South Kensington Register Entry: 'DRESS PIECE (Sari). Cream cotton. One side border has four rows of blue rosettes on a gold ground, reduced after a short distance to three rows; the other has three rows succeeded by a plain blue silk band. The principal end border has one broad gold band woven to form a small diaper pattern, with bands of cones and leaf and other ornament on a cream ground, with two large cones above. Madras. 19th cent. L. 26 ft. 1 in., W. 3 ft. 10 in. Bought, £6. 1779.-1883. (I.S.).'
