Sketchbook (unbound) containing figure and drapery studies, in pencil, coloured chalk and coloured ink. Amongst them are studies for paintings in the 'Pygmalion' series (1869-1879); the 'Perseus' series; 'Love and the Pilgrim' (exhibited at the New Gallery, 1897); 'The Depths of the Sea (exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1886, and at the New gallery, 1892-3); 'The Wheel of Fortune' (exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery, 1883, and at the New Gallery, 1892-3); and 'Sibylla Delphica' (painted in 1877, and exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery, 1886). There is also a study for a bronze relief of 'The Entombment'. The leaves (37) of the volume are of thick Whatman paper. Formerly contained in a canvas binding. Inside the front cover is a trade label of Roberson & Co., 99 Long Acre, London.
