Gallery label
During the 1920s and ’30s, decorative and distinctive clasps and frames added weight and sparkle to monochrome textile and leather evening bags. The application of semi-precious stones, coloured metals and innovative hinges required the skills of specialist craftspeople. The handbag shown open could be accessed through an ingenuous brass-hinge which unfolds into a square. V&A, Room 40, Bags: Inside Out. (12/2020)
