Although the 1852 Museum Inventory says this piece is from Kutch, according to the catalogue of objects sent to the Great Exhibition from the Presidency of Bombay it was made in Surat. Tunics in this style, which are called jublas, were worn by Parsi children, and Surat was an important source of embroidery for the Parsi community. The jubla was worn by young girls along with loose trousers and a round embroidered cap.

Object history
One of four Parsi children's jublas purchased by the Museum of Manufactures from the Indian Court at the Great Exhibition of 1851. This tunic was originally purchased for the Great Exhibition displays by the East India Company and sold to the Museum of Manufactures for £2.
