The success of this 1980s wood-engraved design by artist Sue Scullard (born 1958) for Waitrose pate is reflected in the fact that it was still being used in 1995. Waitrose (a British supermarket chain) felt that wood-engraving and other non-photographic methods of illustration were most effective in suggesting that greater care was taken in the manufacture of a product.

The success of this design is reflected in the fact that it is still being
used. There are a number of examples of wood engraved fish in
packaging today, perhaps reflecting the influence of Bewick's
History of British Fish but also the fact that wood engraving is an
ideal medium to depict fish. Waitrose feel that wood engraving and
other non-photographic illustrations convey a sense of greater care
in the manufacture of a product. [1994]
