Object history
Sometime after acquistion, the painting on this vase was attributed to Ignatz Hess.
Reber (see Refs.) says that the initials in the landscape could be either 'CN' or 'CH'. He believes the coloured works to have been painted by Georg Friedrich Hess.
Historical context
Pear-shaped vases decorated in colours with flowers in Meissen style and with landscapes (sometimes in black) in fantastic painted Rococo framework are a characteristic Höchst fayence type. Johannes Zeschinger, G.F. Hess and Ignatz Hess were the chief painters of these.
A note in the register suggests that the initials in the landscape refer to 'Cajetan Huber'.
Production
Lanscape painted by Huber and borders by Hess.
