Theophilus Hansen (1813-91) was a Danish architect who settled in Vienna in 1846 and was responsible for a number of buildings in neo-classical style. This service is described in the Museum's printed registers of 1869 as having been 'bought as an example of cheapness of manufacture'. The cheapness must have been relative. The decoration is hand-done and this dish cost 16/-. The service was included in the international exhibition, Paris, 1867 at which Lobmeyr won a silver medal
