| Object history | The arm are probably those of the Gianfigliazzi family of Florence. The same arms can be found on V&A c.2052-1910, and both were probably part of a service. The arms indicate that the owner had received the honour of knighthood in the name of Popolo of Florence. Van de Put notes that they probably refer to the Gianfigliazzi family. The escutcheon is that of the people of Florence. Spallanzani discusses the Gianfigliazzi family as an old important family. Gherardo Gianfigliazzi had his own mercantile/banking company in Valencia, the activities of which are documented in 1431, 1438 and again in 1447. |
