Object history
In the literature these drug-jars are referred to as pots blaus regalats, a term found in a Valencian document of 1449 meaning 'pots with melted blue', because of the running of the glaze. It is not known whether this effect was intentional or the result of faulty firing. The pots are usually called Catalan, and since the motifs are adaptations of Valencian models, it has been suggested that they were made there by immigrant Valencian potters. Ray (2000).
