  • Rackham, Bernard. Catalogue of Italian maiolica. London : H.M.S.O., 1977. Cat.No. 451 Dated about 150. Fortnum classes the dish as Gubbio and is of the opinion that the blackish bluye is due to a mixture of manganese with cobalt in the pigment; this is doubtful - the colour may probably be accounted for by impurity of the cobalt. The pattern on the rim comes near to that on a lustred Deruta dish in the British Museum with the arms of Pope Julius II (1503-1513).
