Plate (Tondino) of tin-glazed earthenware, painted in dark green and yellow with the subject of the rape of Proserpine, adapted from a wood-cut in the Venetian edition of Ovid's Metamorphoses of 1497. In the sunk centre is a figure of Cupid flying and drawing his bow. On the rim in the foreground are represented Pluto and Proserpine mounting a two-horsed chariot and Ceres in front. To the left is Charon crossing the Styx; beyond are flaming buildings representing Hades. The back is painted with scrolled foliage in blue.

For colour plate of obverse and l. and w. of reverse of the Hermitage Coppa (dated 1527) see Kube n. 68. Dated 1527 and signed.
